A Poem for Every Pose was born out of my yoga practice and my deep desire to feel more connected with my body and every part of my being.
Each poem is simply titled with a common translated name for each asana and intend to honor the history, depth, somatic, and spiritual meaning of the pose. Some poems are more personal than others and touch upon my struggles with disembodiment, trauma, and my insistent desire to persevere and come home to my deepest self. Other poems are humorous, like Cat-Cow and Wind-Relieving Pose and others, like Star Pose, are more universal and addressed to the you in us all.
Corie’s work is refreshing, original, and inspiring! Her poems help
me go deeper into a practice I thought I already dove deeply into.
I am so thankful for this creative twist to the ancient tradition of yoga.
— Jacquie Bullard, Urban Yoga Mama
The poems can live on the on page or on your walls, but they are also meant to be read out loud, to be shared, to be heard, to be embodied.
They are as much poems as they are teaching tools to bring depth to your or your student’s experience of the asanas and create more yoga practices infused with poetry and presence.
Some of the poems came to me whole right in the middle of my practice and were crafted and re-crafted over time; and some of the poems took days and weeks until they finally took shape. Most of them want to stay as they are, but some poems still want to be rewritten, and some are still yet to come.
The combination of each of the postures with their specific poems
is so good. The stories Corie tells are completely new approaches
to these simple and lovely postures. I was transported into this journey
and, honestly, I didn't fully expect that.Â
— Patty Townsend, Embodyoga
Whether you read them quietly to yourself before, during, or after your yoga or meditation practices, listen to my available audio recordings, or share them with others, I hope they are as much a gift to you as they were, and still are, to me.

Experiencing our yoga practice through the unique combination of language
and asana is immersive and intimate. Corie’s ability to capture the world of e
ach asana in such lively imagery, brings forth a new dimension to what we call our Practice.
