A Poem for Easy Pose
"There is nothing easy for me / about easy pose— to sit in stillness..."
Hello yogis, poets, and seekers of inspiration!
When I was writing this post about Easy Pose, I found myself in the ironic situation of feeling stressed about it. The more I stressed out it, the more jumbled my words seemed and the more my mind wandered.
So I took a moment to focus my breath and to approach it with more ease.
I came to the conclusion that what I really want to do is to keep it simple, share my poem with you, and open a space for conversation.
In what ways do you struggle with your habitual thoughts and in what ways can we share our truest self with more ease?
So without further ado, here is the poem—
Easy Pose There is nothing easy for me about easy pose— to sit in stillness, spine straight, legs crossed, palms open on my lap like seashells receiving what messages may come. I am a busy woman made for clasping doorknobs, rummaging through thrift shop bins, stroking the knots out of my children’s tangled hair. To sit, in stillness, and open my hips fully, broaden my chest, and listen to the chitter chatter of my thoughts as they come and go and flow away into the waves of my salty breath is to sit with the story of my life. Today, I pray to receive a message in a bottle that says in every way possible, Remember love, light, delight. Sanskrit Name: Sukhasana

There’s so much vulnerability here. And so much vulnerability in the word “easy” for folks like us (especially related to creativity, am I right?) This is perfect. I can even imagine the soundtrack of Ujjayi (ocean) breath in the backdrop of this poem!
