Poetic self-care
“You can’t hate yourself happy. You can’t criticize yourself thin. You can’t shame yourself worthy. Real change begins with self-love and self-care.” — Jessica Ortner
Yogic Poetry Experience
Last week, a group of poets, yogis, seekers and supporters came out on a wintery Friday night to practice yoga while listening to me share poems from my collection, A Poem for Every Pose. How amazing is that?
It was one of the most creative and sacred experiences I have ever had the honor of co-creating. I bow my metaphorical hat to everyone who believed in this event enough to say yes and make it happen—
To yoga instructor, Jen Galgano, who lead everyone into and out of every pose, to Lucas Kelly, who dealt with many schedule shifts, to Sole Kombucha for donating two cases of kombucha for us to sip on as we wrote poetry and hung out; to Seva Yoga, who hosted the Yogic Poetry Experience and whose mission to “be well and do good work,” inspired us to donate all of the proceeds (which amounted to $300) to the nonprofit organization, Yoga4Philly.
