Knocking on Heaven’s Door
By Corie Feiner
What would it be like to knock
on heaven’s door? To say, I am here
before my time, but if you don’t mind,
I have some questions—
And then laugh, realizing there is no door,
there is no knock, there are no answers.
I bend my knees, sway my body, let
my fists gently bang my bottom, my back,
and my thighs as I let go of control. Let go
of hand goes here, foot goes there, let go
of thought after thought, and just breathe swiftly
and sway like a child on a swing losing track
of their legs and soaring through the sky
and then finally understand why I don’t need
to be an angel in order to fly.
