High Lunge
By Corie Feiner
I hold myself as still as an ancient cave painting
depicting the god of air who lifted the sky
from the earth, my arms raised in humble praise
of all the daylight storms and wonder
that brought me here, right here, my legs
trembling and lunging and lifting away
from my heavy desk, my solid chair,
my stack of papers, my text message alert slouch,
my back heel lifted, I embrace
instability and how I have to teach myself,
every day, to hold myself together
though “uncertain times.”
With one slight move, I could be a warrior,
or the carrier of a crescent moon reminding all those
who still gaze with wonder at the night sky
that the entire universe lives inside
our beating hearts, our rumbling core,
forever changing and completely whole.
