A Poem for High Lunge

Hello yogis, poets, and seekers of inspiration!
High Lunge was not a pose that popped into my head when I first started practicing yoga.
I often thought of Downward Dog, Warrior II, Cat-Cow or Tree Pose. Kind of like when someone asks if you know any poets and perhaps “popular” poets like Mary Oliver, Maya Angelou, Rumi or the poems you read in high school come to mind.
When I asked the talented artist and yoga teacher Marjorie Cohen Vera of Small Space Studio what came to mind when she thought of High Lunge, she answered with what goes through her mind during High Lunge is—
Concentrate, or you’ll fall over! Heart high and open — OPEN UP to all that is — sink into that front hip, take your time, BREATHE, bend the back leg to get good and rooted and then straighten it and push back with the back heel. Wish my shoulders were more flexible. When will this be over? I’m stronger than I think — maybe these thighs are useful after all… I survived! Now let’s see what happens on the other side…
