Hello yogis, poets, and seekers of inspiration!
What amazes me about yoga - and about the body for that matter, is how we can bend, stretch, and breathe in certain ways and feel such a sense of… release. Both physical and emotional.
Ever suddenly cry or remember something old and long forgotten on the mat? I have–
especially if it is a movement or pose that involves a deep opening in my lower back and hips. As Laurence Galian says, “The body is the unconscious mind.” More than ever, it is time to let it speak and hear what it has to say.
Hope
I grew up in the years when the body and mind were considered separate entities and to relieve any sense of stress, I was taught to drink a lot of alcohol, eat tubs of ice cream and peanut butter, and did anything else I could to numb and dissociate myself from any physical or emotional pain. I mean, “Comfortably Numb” – a rockin’ Pink Floyd song– was the status quo.
