A Poem for Upward Salute
"...can I take a moment to salute myself / as if I was a county whose flag represents / all of creation, / even me, even you, / all of us." -- from Upward Salute, by Corie Feiner
Today’s poem, Upward Salute, is an invitation for me to take a moment to salute myself for just being here. And hopefully, it calls to you to do the same.
So whether you are a yoga teacher, a practicing yogi, or just someone who needs stretch your body and feel a glimmer of togetherness and hope—
I invite you to stand up from your chair, your mat, your couch, your floor, your kitchen counter, your patch of dirt on planet earth and raise your arms above your head, breathe… and take it in.
Paid subscribers can hear an audio recording of me reading Upward Salute here.
Upward Salute
by Corie Feiner There are days I rose like a flag on a pole and saluted all that would come— the chirp of the red breasted robin the rumble of the delivery truck-- the loud neighbors talking about this and that— And then there were days I rose from my bed and stayed at half mast all day mourning what I thought I had lost— the coulda, shoulda, wouldas pressing my shoulders down with grief— but I wonder, now, as I reach my arms over my head and call to my body to wake up, wake up from my fingertips to my toes, the spaces between my vertebrae opening like a once-stuck door, can I take a moment to salute myself as if I was a country whose flag represents all of creation— even me, even you, all of us. Sanskrit Name: Urdhva Hastasana
What is something you can celebrate today? Something simple, even, a small win.
Blooper
Audio of my poems is usually reserved for paid subscribers, because it takes a lot of time, effort, and resources to record each and every poem. But I wanted to share one of the bloopers of me trying to record, Upward Salute. It is so silly it made me chuckle and I hope you get a laugh out of it.
