A Poem for Head to Knee Pose
a yogic poem to help you surrender to the pilgrimage of moving your body from one place to another
Do you know that feeling of doing one small thing that feels so good?
It can be something like consciously holding a fresh mug of warm tea and feeling the heat emanate onto your fingers.
It can be the moment in a real hug when you lean in deeper and your heart gets a hug, too.
It can be a breath, a movement, an understated one like Head to Knee Pose, which is more than a movement to me. It is relief of my sciatic nerve always waiting to creep up and say hello. It is relief for my tight hips...especially the left one.
It is also a pilgrimage. Every time any movement involves moving my head towards my knees or toes, it is a journey.
If you looked at me from a distance you might say, What a bending yoga chick.
But I have had my moments of stiffness and all out immobility, too. This is why I see every day of my life as a practice to gently — and sometimes not so gently — breathe, learn, love, and move towards my goals.
