A Poem for Halfway Lift
& one last free taste of the Bodylove Poetry Writing Workshop before we start in November

You know that moment or that movement between one thing and another?
It seems like transition, but it is also the thing in itself…
like that walk to the store, the lake, or to where ever you need to go and suddenly the walk itself is the place you inhabit. The lift of your leg becomes the moment you are present with more than the step you are about to take, more than your destination.
When I went to write, “Halfway Lift,” it struck me that this pose can seem like a transitionary pose between Forward Fold and Mountain Pose done quickly and easily overlooked. But as I held my back as steady as I could and rested my hands on my legs trying to really embody the pose, I thought to myself—
What does this feel like? What does this look like? What am I actually doing here?
The image that came to me was an angle bracket. That piece of wood or metal beneath your shelf holding up books, alarm clocks, mugs, or jars of paper clips and pens…
