A Poem for Bear Pose
"You would think I would know / how to slow down when winter comes, to fill my belly / with berries and slip into slumber, to laze about / in the cave of my thoughts until the world woke again..."
A poem for you as we emerge from the heaviness of winter.
When I was writing my poem for Bear Pose, I was excited to embody the spirit and deep hibernation period of a bear. Especially since this winter felt a bit longer and heavier for me than other winters. Although I definitely slowed down and covered myself in layers of thick clothes, my instant pot steaming with hot soups, there were still moments…many moments… that I felt heavy, uneasy, and resistant to the grey skies and cold air of the winter season. How about you?
As we emerge into what is soon to be spring, I hope, “Bear Pose” inspires you to breathe, stretch, and wake up your body. Or to settle in and fully embrace any rest that you may still need.
